Laminate
Flooring became a dominate product in the flooring market because of its low
price. People that were moving home often used laminate as a fast makeover
because it was easy to install and could be picked up at the local DIY
store. Due to this being a man made product every third or fifth board is a
copy. This repetitive pattern is often seen as a weakness but can be an
advantage if the homeowner wants consistent pattern and colour in
their floor.
Not surprisingly laminate flooring manufacturers knew the 'good times' could not last and have constantly evolved their products to the increasingly sophisticated tastes of consumers. The flat looking three strip floors that were sold in every DIY store have now become the avocado bath suit of the day. Planks with bevelled edges were only seen in solid wood floors because manufacturers used this to overcome difficulties of producing pre-finished floors. The flooring industry sold this manufacturing technique as a feature and Laminate flooring manufacturers have copied this look to imitate the solid plank look even though they have no such manufacturing problems. Laminate manufacturers have an eye for small details and provide a tough flooring material with the look of the most expensive floors. This is why laminate flooring retains it's popularity. The problem with a successful product that constantly improves and changes colours and styles, is one day the local store has thousands of metres in stock and the next week the same floor is no longer available, because the manufacturer has evolved their products again. When buying laminate flooring, buy it all in one go and buy more than you need to be sure you can finish the project.

![]() There is no limit to laminate floors and even the most expensive wood floors can be copied. Laminate planks over 2 metres in length (far left) and herringbone floors (above and below) are the latest trend in laminate from Berry Floor.
